Project COP

The Project

Project aim

Aim of the project – create and test methodology for facilitating learning activities within communities of Practice (COP) Community of Practice online learning platform would be based on social network of Facebook and integrated with related audio-visual platforms like YouTube, LinkedIn. Existing social media and information exchange platforms provides myriad opportunities for learning, however, must be used wisely in order to deliver information in more structured way for elderly learners – suitable for search, classify, check, and use of information for practical purposes. Especially this approach is relevant for persons, who are outside formal learning process – particularly for adults. Project will target individual, organizational and sectoral learning – it will empower adult learners to use communities of practice for educational purposes; Non-formal education organizations will be able to provide online facilitation in COPs. Adult education sector will be enriched with innovative network-based learning opportunities.

Nordic/Baltic added value Baltic and Nordic partners in this project make sense, because project’s countries‘ educational systems operates under the different, cultural, social and economical conditions, what provides opportunities to look at other — countries how particular communities of practice take a shape, operates and learn in Adult educational sector. Functioning of communities requires a lot of social interests, efforts, relevant cultural background, flexible educational systems. Those major characteristics can be found more in Nordic countries, comparing to Baltic. Therefore a lot of good examples of COP could be captured and adopted to such Baltic countries like Lithuania and Latvia. Transnational cooperation of Lithuania, Latvia and Iceland will give opportunity to exchange good practice in creation, maintaining of such communities as well to get insights into COP cultures that promotes social wellness and support for Adult learner

Project idea:

Community of Practice as a tool in Adult Education Nowadays there’re plenty of educational conceptions that applied in educational practice: discovery learning, problem-based learning, project-based learning, inquiry learning, work-based learning, action learning. Very often they are mixed even by pedagogues in order to describe different settings of selfdirected learning strategies. Especially complicated situation arises when we need to decide what learning forms and strategies to apply for more matured persons that are outside the for le day; 300 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute (http://videonitch.com/2017/12/13/36- mind-blowing-youtube-facts-figures-statistics-2017-re-post/ ). This flow of information exchange maybe very useful and powerful learning toll of managed and facilitated properly. That’s why within this project we expect to create and test learning methodology for Community of Practice of adults.
mal education – how we can contribute to their knowledge and skills once they don’t have permanent contact to formal educational organizations or direct professional updates. That’s why Community of Practice as a learning strategy comes at hand. Community of Practice as an educational phenomena has origins within Wenger’s (1991) works, who emphasized Communities as a powerful source of knowledge and creativity. In order Community to become source of knowledge and tool for learning proper communities should be created and facilitated for active exchange for ideas and knowledge. Community of Practice consist of any active adult, who practice certain professions – possess certain theoretical, practical knowledge and dispositions. Due to practical experience (Tacit knowledge) and exercises, worker acquires advanced level of mastery, that’s very valuable source of knowledge. That’s why it worth to exchange it with other colleagues in the same field. In Scientific resources this approach also called Community-based learning, Network’s Community (Internet-based community).
